My Story
I, Melissa Johnson, am joining thousands of other dedicated women and men for the Atlanta Bay Breast Cancer 3-Day, a three day, 60-mile walk to help raise awareness and find a cure for breast cancer.
I decided to participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day because my grandmother and aunt have both battled breast cancer. My aunt is a survivor; however, I recently lost my grandmother last summer. She fought long and hard for over ten years. She held strong until the bitter end, never giving up. I would hate to see anyone else go through the pain she went through.
Breast Cancer is unfortunately the number one cancer in American women and it is estimated 40,460 women will die from breast cancer this year alone. My grandmother is part of that statistic now. Hopefully one day our children and our children’s children will be able to live in a world that is breast cancer free. Together, we can make that happen. And that is why I would love nothing more than to walk in honor of my grandmother.
Taking place in 14 cities nationwide, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is a three day, 60-mile walk that provides an opportunity to educate tens of thousands of people about breast health, including the importance of early detection. Breast Cancer 3-Day participants commit to raising a minimum of $2,200 and walking an average of 20 miles a day during each three-day event. Proceeds from the Breast Cancer 3-Day are used for breast cancer research, education, and community outreach programs.
Where does your Donation go? 85% of proceeds go to the Susan G Komen for the Cure. (Tax ID # 23-7825575) 15% goes to National Philathropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
